We all know that Sutter Home doesn't have the best name when it comes to wine, though I must admit that I love both their Chenin Blanc and their Moscato. However, they are on a new path with their wine know and 'Red.'

'Red' is a combination of Zinfandel and Merlot with a dash of Moscato added to it which definitely sweetens it up a little bit. Honestly, I've been trying to get people to give up white zinfandel for the longest, and this might be the perfect wine to get the neophyte wine drinker to start exploring other things.

The taste in itself does not have the basic characteristics of most red wines, and for that you can really thank the Moscato, which does change the attributes of the other two grapes immensely; it actually reminds me of a more full-bodied Chianti (this would mean that the wine would appear to be sweet). The aroma is that of very light berries.

I would definitely recommend this wine, and believe it or not, it's something that I will be promoting as a great introductory wine, as well as something nice and inexpensive for most folks.

Our Mission: The Black Winer strives to expose African Americans [and others] to wines, without the flair, stuffiness, and airs of elitism and snobbery that you get from sommeliers and high level wine enthusiasts. We believe in finding something that you like the taste of, outside of the basic brands that you have been force-fed over the years through a combination of ethnically targeted advertising, and what people in your family have historically been drinking.
